This site happened by accident, starting out during November 2001 on Blueyonder Personal Web Space as a means to learn a little bit about creating websites, which was something I'd never done before. A little at a loss as to what to use as subject matter, I decided to post up some of my digital photography. Due in no small part to positive feedback from friends and family, the site has acquired its own domain and a bizarre life of its own. WWW.NervousCyclist.org  now not only contains my photography, but also contains features on my bike, technology and other obsessions and projects.

Favourite websites:   www.subbrit.org.uk    www.rathergood.com*   www.multimap.com

* Warning: www.rathergood.com contains swearing, adult material, is totally offensive and is devilishly funny. Enter at your peril!

Heroes: Vaclav Havel for having the vision and determination;

Sir Norman Foster for the engineering skill;

James Dyson for proving British innovation is not dead;

Nick Drake for saying things that I never could

Dislikes: Narrow mindedness, prejudice, intolerance, bad drivers, computer stuff that doesn't work properly out of the box or is badly designed

Greatest achievement: Cycling the Birmingham Inner Ring Road without fear

Greatest regret: Missing out on the chance to see the Stone Roses gig at Walsall Overstrand before they were huge

Underlying beliefs: You can't understand something fully until you know how it works; You can never comprehend another persons' views until you stand in their shoes and walk around a bit; It's always easier to criticise someone's effort than to do it yourself; Some folks are torn apart by the thought someone may be getting something they themselves are not

Most unappealing habits: Smoking like a chimney, questioning everything, ranting, inability to turn up on time

Likely quotes: 'How's that work, then?'   'I've been thinking...'   'Is the power off?'    'It's a load of old...'

Why NervousCyclist: because I'm a nervous, cycling individual, and it was all I could think of...

Most probably remembered (if at all) as: That shabby, opinionated git in the silly hat

I suggest checking out the work of the following charities:

Site Credits:

Clive Roberts, Aunty M the Aged Relative and Roy Hands  for their encouragement, proof reading and critical eyes

All the people who have given me ideas for stuff to put on here, you know who you are.

Alex Threlfall and www.cyberprog.net for help with hosting and technical support

The residents of Hints for tolerating a scruffy bloke taking photographs of their homes

Dave's Cycles, Walsall Wood (01543) 372584, for continual excellent repairs and general pampering of the bike in spite of my constant abuse and daft questions. These guys really are excellent wheelbuilders.

Oh, the title font is 'Bradley Hand ITC', the picture editor used is Ulead Photoimpact! 8 - but only for the graphics. The photos are untouched. Largely the site is thrown together using Microsoft FrontPage XP - I know it's damned naff, but it's quick and does what I want, so there...
